Position Purpose
Looking for a mentorship practice or for a place to practice your best medicine? At Midland Animal Clinic and Hospital we are seeking a veterinarian who is looking for the opportunity to join a booming practice that focuses on educating clients on the highest quality care and building lifelong relationships with pets and pet owners, while being supported by a highly skilled team! Started in the 1950s and has virtually grown every year, making it into the spectacular two-doctor and a half practice you see today. Our strong support staff allows our doctor to be focused on a high level of patient care and client education. We enjoy an extremely diverse range of medical and surgical cases and are happy to support your unique clinical interests. We are currently a two-doctor and a half practice looking to add a third and fourth full time associates who have a passion for surgery. We encourage veterinarians of all experience levels to apply as our current two doctors are able to provide a vast amount of knowledge and mentorship to new graduates from their 40+ years of experience!
About the area: The Midland/Odessa area has much to offer when you look past just what meets the eye. It is located just halfway between El Paso and Dallas, and is not far from Amarillo, San Antonio, and Austin. It is also just a short 4-hour drive from the Ruidoso Ski Resort and many lakes. If you enjoy sports, there are many local football games, minor league baseball games, and NAHL hockey leagues to both attend and participate in. The Midland/ Odessa area has many assortments of museums to check out. Midland is home to the I-20 wildlife preserve, the Sibley nature center, the Wagner Noel Performing arts Center where you can see many different varieties of entertainment. Many families have chosen the suburb of Greenwood with the Greenwood ISD schools for smaller class sizes and a great education. This allows for a small-town feel with all the offerings of a bigger city nearby. After all, we are in the heart of the Permian Basin and the oil industry center of the state. This area has a little bit of everything to offer!
Essential Responsibilities
- Examine and treat companion animals to detect and determine the nature of disease or injuries.
- Operate diagnostic equipment and collect diagnostic samples as well as interpret results.
- Advise pet owners on preventative care and treatment options.
- Perform surgery and prescribe medication as needed.
- Provide counsel around pet end of life care.
- Maintain patients’ medical records.
- Ensures compliance with veterinary ethics and relevant statues, policies, and procedures.
Requirements/Qualifications
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from an accredited AVMA institution.
- Appropriate state licensure.
- Eligibility to obtain DEA/BNDD.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrates professional and courteous presentation consistently with staff and clients.
- Ability to lift patients and carry equipment up to 25 pounds; ability to lift patients or carry equipment over 25 pounds with assistance.

Veterinary Assistant

More about the Role
The Veterinary Assistant assists the veterinarians and technicians with patient care and treatment, monitors hospitalized pets, maintains inventory, prepares prescriptions, performs routine in-house laboratory work, educates clients regarding veterinary care and procedures, and assists with surgical procedures.

- Active Listening: Following the instructions of veterinarians and sometimes patient owners. Picking up the needs of veterinarians and teammates based on prior experiences and feedback.
- Organization Skills: Clear tracking of lab specimens, medications, patient instructions, workflow, and other job-related items while managing multiple patients and clients.
- Client Satisfaction: Ensuring all activities and interactions result in the highest level of client satisfaction.
Essential Responsibilities
- Assist veterinarians in the practice of veterinary medicine and surgery and other tasks as needed.
- Assist veterinarians in outpatient exams by taking histories, vital signs, and weights, as well as providing client education.
- Prepare patients for surgery and monitor vital signs of the patient during surgery.
- Obtain blood, stool, and other samples; perform in-hospital laboratory testing and prepare specimens for outside laboratories.
- Take, develop, and maintain radiographs following proper safety procedures.
- Provide basic animal handling and restrain animals during exams.
- Administer and monitor medications, anesthesia, vaccines, and treatments at the discretion of the veterinarian.
- Clean and straighten exam rooms, treatment, and lab areas; restock exam rooms with supplies. Assist other team members to keep the public areas of the practice clean; clean and maintain all medical equipment.
- Demonstrate warmth, courtesy and professionalism in all interactions with clients; exercise compassion and care in all interactions with patients.
- Communicate with veterinarians and practice team members including client discussions, patient plans, client concerns, etc.
- Any other duties as assigned.
Requirements/Qualifications
- Ability to work on weekends as required
- Previous veterinary experience required
- Ability to lift patients and carry equipment up to 25 pounds; ability to lift patients or carry equipment over 25 pounds with assistance
- Practice OSHA safety techniques including proper PPE
- Basic math and the ability to calculate medication dosages
- Basic computer skills, familiarity with MS office applications, etc.
- Strong communication skills to ensure patient safety
